October Reading Post, Coming Soon (I Hope!)

Those of you who don’t read my Substack or follow my Instagram account will not know that I’m currently travelling with my husband. We landed in Paris on November 4th, took the train to Milan, then to Bari for a few days. From Bari, we took an overnight ferry (with the added drama of a lightning show over a dark sea) to Patras, Greece. Then we made our way by taxi, bus, bus, taxi to Stemnitsa in Greece’s Peloponnese Region where we began hiking the 75-kilometre Menalon Trail Tuesday morning.

All of which is to say that despite my best intentions (I packed my little handwritten Reading Journal so that I could finish my notes about what I read in October AND transcribe them into this month’s blogpost), I haven’t managed to squeeze any time for book-blogging so far this trip. I promise you that it will happen (we’ve been changing beds almost every night since we landed, but next week we have four nights in the same place. I’m hopeful!), but for know, please accept my excuses. . .

As a gesture to the post I’m promising you, here are some photos of the splendid Feltrinelli bookstore in the Milano Centrale train station. I restricted myself to the slim paperback copy of Michela Murgia’s Accabadora which my Italian book club will be reading while I’m away. Have any of you read this already? It’s so good! And this bookstore! We’re lucky I didn’t miss the train šŸ˜‰

If you’re interested in following my travels, I posted a few words and photos today on Substack and I’ve been trying to post something on Instagram almost daily. So much depends on internet connection here in the mountains (and, to be honest, on energy levels after a day of mountain hiking).

ciao for now,

xo,

f

Happy to wait for the book post. I’m loving the IG and Substack posts about your trip so no pressure from me. That bookshop looks amazing.

If you enjoyed the Menalon Trail, check out MAINALON: IN SEARCH OF ARCADIA by Matt Stanley: a fascinating guide to the trail and to the region.
