I’m hurrying over to a morning baby-sitting gig and you’re all hurrying off to join those crazy Black Friday crowds…or spending your online time today checking out what’s 50% off where. (You’re not, all of you, are you? Tell me I’m wrong. Or tell me how sensible you’ve been and what carefully planned purchases you saved oodles of dough on.)
I did finally cross the threshold of fashion purchasing again, but only one garment, ever so cool, exactly what I’d wanted but even better in the execution. Suspense will just have to mount until I’m ready to model and photograph and do a little show and tell. But I can tell you this was a considered purchase that I’m super pleased about.
And let me continue in the teaser vein by showing you a photo of one of the wonderful portraits we saw in a recent Paris exhibition. I’ll tell you the artist’s name and a bit about her life and times (there, I gave you another tiny clue) in an upcoming post. A not-yet-written upcoming post. Is anyone else finding that someone’s turned the treadmill speed up lately? I feel life moving along much more briskly.
Better run. My daughter will be leaving for work about now, and Dad will be trying to get dressed for work and feeding little people breakfast., a guaranteed banana-on-the-sports-jacket situation. Nana is needed!

No Black Friday shopping here Mater. These days I am spending time at the gym – words I never thought would ever apply to me! Need to keep up that hard-won cardio. Look forward to your upcoming posts, in the meantime, enjoy the babysitting!

It was a more sustaining choice as well. Shopping sometimes gives an immediate boost that doesn't last as long as I mig hope. But when I think of my time with he little ones, I end up smiling. ..

I'm sure you had a rich time with your friend, cooking for her, eating with her, and a long conversation full of laughter and gossip and ideas and shared confidences. Again, so much more sustaining than shopping would be.

Beautiful portrait … Looking forward to hearing more about her. She has the sweetest face! Went out for breakfast followed by a walk having decided to avoid shopping! I did order a couple of Christmas presents online before going out in the evening. Mainly as I realised that perfect present idea for some of the ladies in the family was already sold out in some stores!!

I bought but one Black Friday item, but it's a gift for Le Duc, Seems that Black Friday has replaced Boxing Day as "the" sale day.
Yes, it seems to have, and it's really tough to ignore the call, the discounts are so advantageous. But I'm not ready to shop yet, and really, we all have too much.
Beautiful portrait. No shopping here. Didn't even leave the house except for a walk and romp with the dog. I've been rearranging the sewing room to set up a needlework/embroidery corner, and planting bulbs, hundreds of bulbs. I'm rather worried they won't all come up, but whatever happens it will be wonderful.

Until recently, "Black Friday" had meant a historical date for me, relatetd to the worldwide crisis of 1929. Only this year I realized that the name has been applied to a day of shopping. (And that the following saturday is "Buy Nothing Day".) I didn't buy anything but food on either day. I'm lucky because many years ago my mother abolished Cristmas presents among adults in our family. So, with one exception, we only give presents to the younger generation, that limits the number of things to buy to six. But I do give homemade cookies to all the world, so I started baking the first batch yesterday. Today there are more to come.
I was slow to catch on as well-it's a recent phenomenon in Canada, another creeping northward of American practices. Buy Nothing day seems ironically placed after everyone's already grabbed their stuff. That said, I still enjoy some of the shopping and gift-giving as long as I can be quite sure there's no waste. Those cookies, for example, will be much appreciated, and I bet your house smells wonderful!
