Super busy here with family. Wonderful! Will tell you more later but I’m mostly collapsing into sleep when we get back to our hotel room (more on that later. I did a stellar job picking this one. Very good value at our budget).
We had pre-booked a visit to the Borghese Gallery yesterday, so had a few hours on our own. And thinking ahead to tonight’s opera, I imagined choosing one of these Azzedine Alaia dresses, part of a marvellous exposition, Couture/Sculpture. Some very witty pairings of dress to context. Again, more to follow. Sumptuous stuff. The gallery overwhelms, as does Rome itself, of course. Bernini, Caravaggio, ceilings full of libidinous satyrs, the lingering whispers of centuries-old dinner parties….
Where Pauline might have deigned to put clothes on, if she’d been offered this stunning column of pearl-grey and cream…
Better run. We’re meeting my daughter soon for a market expedition.

One of the things that didn't happen this visit…aperitifs at a bar, or on a terrace. But we did pass Harry's Bar this morning, and I sighed….

Fun! Is it cooling off there? We're starting to feel fall, but these days that means high 70s instead of high 80s;).
Our hotel bed doesn't even have blanketsmore cover, just cool, crisp sheets. Temps in mid 20s now, so not bad, but humidity!
Fantastic! Rome is so tourist packed in the summer, I imagine this is the perfect time to visit!
We ere surprised to see more tourists at the Piazza Navone last week than we did when we were here in July, 2014. And of course the school tours….

Really rather narrow minded of the gallery not to let you borrow the grey/white dress for the opera, doncha think? It would so suit you……except perhaps a bit long.
My private game at galleries is to pick my favorite thing in case I am the billionth visitor (or something) and am given my pick of the holdings. Its never happened yet but I want to be prepared.
And as lovely as Pauline looks draped why bother with clothes? What a lovely back she has….

Yes, I thought the same re gallery's lack of generosity. Mind you, if those dresses are a size Zero, they're a small zero….
Apparently, Pauline scandalized her society by posing as she did, and when questioned about whether she wasn't uncomfortable, she said, "oh no, there was a lovely wood stove in the room"

Borghese Gallery is on my Rome list. If you're interested in Bernini, have you visited Santa Maria della Vittoria to see The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa? The statue is situated and presented in an interesting way vis-a-vis the light from the windows.
