Happy Birthday, Adam! and a Happy Independence Day too!

Here are my daughter and her partner, checking out the bald eagles on their visit this weekend. Good friends in high school, they’ve been living together for 12 or so years now, and married for five. We couldn’t be happier with her choice. This solemn, contemplative young man is one we’re proud to consider our son, never mind the in-law part.
Here he is, still looking solemn. Of course, he can’t fool my readers, since they’ve already seen him making like a wild man here and here (the photo in the latter post has to be the craziest ever posted on this blog, truly!)
This guy, when he’s not sitting around looking relaxed and, hmmm, solemn, is a very witty raconteur and a fine observer of his fellow human being, yet not a judgemental one. He is also very musically talented. I taught piano and music theory, harmony, history, etc. for many years, having had lessons myself from five years old, ’til I received my diploma in Piano Performance from the Toronto Conservatory. Adam, on the other hand, is completely self-taught, yet can coax great sounds from virtually any instrument he sits in front of, and he has a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of popular (especially rock, but blues and country as well) music since the 1950s that I envy and am in awe of. He now makes a living as a sound engineer, instructor, and sometime producer, and I have no doubt that my grandchild will be making music alongside him.
Because, yes, this young man, whose birthday is today (easy to remember, Independence Day and all) is going to be a dad in November. I suspect he’s going to be very good at that job as well.

His nephew seems to think so!

So Happy Birthday, Adam

and Happy Independence Day to my American readers — Enjoy the fireworks!

    Congrats! Congrats!

I had to read that twice to make sure I got the meaning 🙂 And congrats to your daughter for finding such a fine man.

Thanks, Jillian, we think it’s great news! (And it seems to me you were the first reader to suspect, several weeks ago . . .)

A heartwarming post. Healthy families attract healthy additional members. I am so happy to ‘meet’ this next generation of intelligent, loving gentle-men and fathers. Congratualtions.

Duchesse: I agree that there seems to be a wonderful generation of young fathers now, demonstrating true gentle-manliness. Adam’s parents did a fine job!
